1962 Jeep Dispatcher DJ3A OB (Open Body) was drug home in Dec 1999 along with a 49 CJ2A. Got them from junkyard around Melcher IA. The jeep had no engine, but did have the T96 transmission floor shifter. The body was straight, solid with few problem needing work, floors, windshield frame. Jeep was torn down, sandblasted, repaired, primed and painted. The windshield frame installed was from the M38. The floor shifter tranny was swapped for the column shift T96. Even though we got this DJ in 1999, no work was done on it until we brought the 64 DJ home in 2001. Work started in 2002 and both DJs were done early spring of 2008. As much fun as we had restoring both DJs, it doubled all the work and of course Doubled the budget. Probably why it took 6 years or so. Jeep is powered with L4-134 military RMC engine. Used the tub when we created our Surrey top as bows on Surrey where being repaired. This jeep spent time in Omaha, where it was Peddling something in 1968. My grand-kids called it the “fun jeep” and were not happy when it was sold in the fall of 08 to help cover costs when we lost our 25 yr old son in June 08.
This ol girl rolled eastward to Chicago area where it is being enjoyed and well taken care of. It is a Great 2wd DJ that WAS fun to drive.
