In 1959 the Jeep Gala was an established success as a economical rental vehicle in Acupolco Mexico, Virgin Islands & Hawaii.
Along with resort use many “Rent a Car” companies such as Tropical motors, Avis, Hertz, Gray Line Tours and others also saw the benefit in using this gem in their business.
Willys believed that the Jeep Gala offered a complete new concept to the car rental industry. With lots of confidence in their little delivery vehicle Willys introduced the Jeep Gala Rental Plan Guide as part of their factory sponsored program for consistent and sound promotion on behalf of rental operators who placed the Jeep Gala in their fleets.
Some of the product advantages Willys promoted in their guide was the Gala’s low initial costs, low operation costs, lowest maintenance costs, very low depreciation, practicability, easy to rent and its rentable personality.
Willys offered important promotion support such as counter cards, magazine publicity & advertising, key chains for vehicles, local publicity, direct mail, handout pieces, continuous activity.
Here on this page of the original rental plan guide you can see from the colorful examples the artist was unsure of the final color schemes.

Willys worked hard and stayed involved publicizing the Jeep Gala with such items as press photos, press releases. The following pictures were actual press photos that were included in rental plan guide for use by fleet owners to promote the Jeep Gala being introduced into their fleet of vehicles.
This recently found colorful Hertz Rent-A-Car post card (courtesy ebay) was created from a page found within Gala rental plan guide. As you can see from comparing the two, the artist may not have known final color schemes when putting together the rental plan guide but by the time the Hertz post card was released they had figured out exactly what final color schemes were going to be. In Gala rental plan guide the Jeep Galas were all pink with “shield” type graphic on spare tire cover. On the Hertz Rent-A-Car post card the color changes included two jeeps from pink to blue & green, also spare tire cover now had the color matched pink stripes.
As you can see from this piece of advertisement that Willys was open to design a Gala per buyers needs. With assistance from Willys representatives the sketches seen inside this advertising booklet were visual suggestions to help customers obtain the proper trim design to compliment the dominate motif of their facilities.
